7 Steps To A More Blessed Life

There are many critical steps on the road to spiritual growth and maturity. These steps, if navigated well, significantly propel you forward.

Giving is one of these steps. The decision to become a giver is one of the most important ones you can make. It takes your life to a new level.

Becoming a giver is more than simply giving. Practically everyone gives attention and resources to projects, needs and people occasionally. But becoming a giver is different. A giver has a heart and spirit that delights in giving. Whether it’s with time, material resources, or service, givers have discovered the principle Jesus taught, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35)

What makes someone a giver, from God’s perspective?

Let’s look at 7 characteristics of a giver. They:

  • Give consistently.

Givers develop regular, consistent giving habits. Giving is a part of their lives, not just a “once in a while” act.

  • Give selflessly.

Givers don’t give to get something, manipulate something or someone, or to benefit themselves. They give freely to help and bless people and to help fulfill valuable purposes, work, and vision.

  • Give generously.

“Generous” means, “marked by abundance or ample proportions.” (Merriam-Webster) Givers aren’t looking for the least they can give, they are considering the best they can do to bless, help, enable and empower great things and meet real needs.

  • Give increasingly.

Givers are always looking for ways to grow their giving. They refuse to “cap” their giving potential.

  • Give joyously.

A person can give grudgingly or joyously. Givers recognize that giving opportunities should be celebrated, not just tolerated. They have learned that giving is fun and fulfilling.

  • Give freely.

Givers give without being coerced or cajoled. They freely respond to the nudge of God’s Spirit, to opportunities to advance God’s cause, or to possibilities of helping meet some need.

  • Give expectantly.

Givers give with the expectation that God will bless and take care of their personal needs. Givers have an inner confidence that they will never out-give God. They trust in God’s generous provision for their lives.

Look at the words of Jesus:

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. — Luke 6:38 (NLT)

Take the step from occasional giving to becoming a giver! You’ll discover the truth of Jesus’ words, “It’s more blessed to give than to receive.”
