There’s a wise piece of advice given to grocery shoppers — “Never go to the grocery store when you’re hungry!” Hungry people make bad choices!
The same is true in the spiritual, emotional and physical realms of your life. If you’re not filled with the right things, you’ll fill up with the wrong things!
Take a look at this verse:
Proverbs 27:7 (NIV) “A person who is full refuses honey, but even bitter food tastes sweet to the hungry.”
When you’re full, you’re not tempted to raid the refrigerator. When you’re satisfied, you don’t go searching for satisfaction in wrong places. The opposite is also true. Hungry, dissatisfied people get themselves into trouble!
What’s the lesson for you?
If you keep yourself spiritually, emotionally and physically full, rested and renewed you can avoid attractions and temptations that mess up your life. When you allow your spiritual tank to run dry, or your emotions to become frustrated, fatigued and frazzled, or your body to be pushed to the point of exhaustion, inevitably you will make bad decisions. You become vulnerable and susceptible to harmful things when you’re “hungry.” Even “bitter” things taste “sweet” to someone who is starving.
The key is to stay full of the right things! Don’t ignore feeding, nurturing, refreshing and restoring your spirit, soul and body. It will keep you out of trouble!
