Have you ever lost something only to later discover it in plain view? Sometimes our search for something blinds us to actually seeing what we’re looking for. Here’s the lesson: You’ve got to look to see, but you must look the right way to see the right things.

There’s an Old Testament story about a lady who learned something about looking the right way. It’s found in 2 Kings 4:1, 2 (NLT) “One day the widow of a member of the group of prophets came to Elisha and cried out, ‘My husband who served you is dead, and you know how he feared the Lord. But now a creditor has come, threatening to take my two sons as slaves.’ ‘What can I do to help you?’ Elisha asked. ‘Tell me, what do you have in the house?’ ‘Nothing at all, except a flask of olive oil,’ she replied.”

Here’s a lady in big trouble. She has lost her husband and is about to lose her two sons to slavery. From her perspective, she had nothing to satisfy this huge debt she owed.

It’s interesting that Elisha’s first question to her involved asking her to look for something — any resource she might have that could become the seed for her need. Her initial response was, “I have nothing at all!” Her problem blinded her to a small, but critical resource she possessed; a small jar of oil. It took her a moment to see and acknowledge it. Little did she know that the very thing she was initially blind to would become the very thing God would use to solve her problem and secure her future. She had to look to see the resource that was already in her house!

Don’t overlook the resources you have. They are the seeds to meeting your needs and securing your future!
